About FreeWill Labs

Built for the middle of the trip.

FreeWill Labs is an independent product studio building thoughtful apps that help families explore, travel, and spend meaningful time together — in real places, in the moment.

Why we exist

The moment is the point.

Most travel technology is built for the edges of a trip — booking it before, posting about it after. The middle, where the actual family experience happens, gets very little help.

FreeWill Labs is built around that middle. Our belief is simple: technology should help families experience more of the real world, not pull them away from it.

Three products, one belief

One studio, across the whole arc of a trip.

Different products, same throughline: be present, together, in real places — before, during, and after the adventure.

How we work

Small, early, and honest about it.

We are a small, independent studio, and we build slowly on purpose. We field-test our own products on real trips, fix what doesn't hold up, and write honest notes about what we learn.

Build for genuine problemsEvery product starts with something families actually run into — not a feature looking for a use.
Test in the real worldWe use our own products on real trips, then fix what doesn't hold up in the field.
Focused, not bloatedWe favor a few thoughtful products over sprawling platforms.
Technology in service of the momentTools should support real-world experiences, not pull you away from them.

Tested in real life

We use what we build.

Adventure Quest is live on iPhone and used on real family outings and trips. Family Trip OS was built and tested on a real European family trip, and continues to be refined in private early access. PaddlePin is now available on the App Store, shaped by months of field testing on lakes, rivers, and coastal waters. When something doesn't work in the field, we change it — and we write about what we learned.

Notes from the field

We write down what we learn.

Family travel ideas, honest product notes, and stories from the road — gathered in the Adventure Quest Journal and FreeWill Notes.
